Creating a custom backing track of a Broadway song is always an exciting challenge — especially when it’s for a creative and passionate team like a Dance Theatre Academy.
Recently, I had the opportunity to work with a UK-based Dance Theatre Academy that was planning a bold, stylistic performance. They reached out with a very specific request: they needed a new version of “Rhythm of Life” from Sweet Charity — but not in its original Broadway style. Instead, they wanted the song completely reimagined in the quirky, theatrical style of Beetlejuice the Musical.

Removing vocals from the original wasn’t enough for their vision. They needed something built from scratch — a full reorchestration that captured the personality of their choreography and matched the mood of their performance.
I created the entire custom backing track of a Broadway song from the ground up. This meant new instrumentation, dramatic dynamics, eerie harmonies, and playful rhythm shifts — all inspired by the Beetlejuice aesthetic. The result was a vibrant, offbeat version of “Rhythm of Life” that brought a whole new energy to the piece — more predatory and fun, with theatrical edge and quirky flair.
